Duncan Card, B.A.(hon), LL.B.,LL.M.,ICD.D, is called as a Barrister & Solicitor in Ontario Canada and in Bermuda, and he has specialized in all aspects of technology law, outsourcing, cybersecurity and data protection for over 30 years. He has been a partner in Appleby’s Bermuda office since 2022, but as of April 1st, 2026 he will continue to provide his technology advisory services internationally as the CEO of The Advisory Group Ltd. based in Hamilton, Bermuda.

Duncan has structured and negotiated technology transactions in over 60 nations, including across North America, Europe, the Middle East, India and in the Caribbean. His practice includes the following technology sectors: all aspects of IT including IaaS, DaaS, SaaS; international outsourcing and shared service infrastructures; robotics; advanced military and defence technologies; technology procurement, especially public sector contracting; nuclear energy;  fintech & Insurtech; Digital Identity Service Providers;  all aspects of privacy and data protection; financial sector technology, resilience, outsourcing and cybersecurity regulation and compliance;  digital transformation projects ( many of which have been cross-border ); and, corporate governance best practices. Duncan’s widely acclaimed book, Information Technology: Business, Management & Legal Strategies (2021, 649 pages , hardcover ) is published internationally by Thomson Reuters.

Prior to joining Appleby in April 2022, Duncan was consistently ranked by multiple independent ranking services of one of Canada’s leading technology lawyers. As a senior partner, he Chaired the Technology Law Practice for a prestigeous Canadian law firm for 17 years, during which he also opened and was the managing partner for that firm’s Bermuda office from 2014-2018. Most recently, in 2026 Lexology ( formerly Who’s Who Law ) ranked Duncan as the only ”Leading Lawyer” for Bermuda in the Technology & Data Protection field of excellence.

Duncan has held numerous corporate directorships and several advisory board positions over the last 25 years, including as a corporate director for Hitachi Data Systems Canada, as a Trustee for Queen’s University in Canada for 8 years, and as the Chair of the Governance Committee on the Board one of Bermuda’s largest banks for 12 years. In May of 2026, he will become the Chairman of an internationally active alternative financing company in the precious metals mining sector.

He is an active author of articles on topics concerning technology project management, digital transformation, AI development and implementation, privacy law and commercial transaction best practices, and he is a sought-after conference speaker and panelist. Duncan graduated Magnum Cum Laude as the B.A.(Hon) Gold Medallist at Queen’s University; he has law degrees from Queen’s University, the London School of Economics & Political Science and from the University of Toronto;  he holds a certificate in international law from the Academy of International Law at The Hague; and, Duncan was the voted valedictorian of his Institute of Corporate Directors ( Canada) charter director qualifications ( ICD.D) class in 2013.
