Nominations

Here are the details of the candidates who have been nominated by the present SCL Trustees:

Chris James
Chris is a Legal Director at DLA Piper UK LLP. Prior to that, Chris worked in-private practice and in-house in the financial services and telecommunications sectors. Chris practices data protection and technology law, including in respect of cloud computing, mobile apps, big data and internet services. Chris started out as a web developer and systems engineer, working for his own start-up and later a new media agency, before pursuing a career in the law. Chris sits on the SCL Media Board, and helped to co-found the Junior Lawyers' Group and Technology Law Futures Group of the SCL.

Statement
I am pleased to be nominated to stand again as a Trustee. In the past year the Society has launched its new membership platform and website.  I have been closely involved with the development of the new platform including spending two weeks pro-bono with the Society to manage the technical build.  Now that the platform is up-and-running I am keen to be re-elected to help ensure that we make the most out of the publishing platform and business intelligence capabilities it offers, for the benefit of our membership. I am also keen to continue to support the excellent work of the executive team and the other trustees generally.

Mark Lumley
Mark Lumley is Head of Commercial and a Partner at Shulmans LLP based in Leeds. Mark leads the firms technology work and has a particular interest in supporting software development and technology services businesses, related projects and in online trading operations. Mark worked briefly in a large technology business before becoming a lawyer and has a strong interest in software and application technology. Mark is the current SCL Northern Group chair and an enthusiastic and active committee member.

Statement
I am delighted to be nominated to stand again as a Trustee. I have always had a passion for technology and the law, and I am lucky to be able to combine those passions in my work and in engagement with the SCL. I started out programming many years ago and still dabble when time allows. I also have an interest in training and development and encouraging others to get involved with SCL. The SCL is a great community to be a part of and I look forward to continuing to contribute to its development in whatever way I can. I am also particularly keen on developing enhanced links between the legal IT community and the academic and student world and the wider technology business community.
