Module 5 - Negotiating IT Contracts
Previous Foundations of IT Law modules have looked at some of the key features of IT contracts, as well as the underlying legal concepts. However, life at the sharp end also involves negotiating contracts in this area. Successful negotiation is both a legal and a broader commercial skill. Unsuccessful negotiation risks problems arising for one or both parties in the future.
In this module, the speakers will examine a number of facets of negotiating an IT contract, including:
• The importance of preparation, from assembling the right team to identifying the key background information
• The lawyer's role in negotiation
• Future-proofing the contract
• The risks of proceeding without a fully negotiated agreement, and potential solutions.
• Specific areas of concern, including negotiating liability and indemnities
Drawing on their practical experience and examples, the speakers hope to encourage audience engagement and debate on what are often emotive issues.
The SCL Foundations of IT Law Programme is intended to provide a comprehensive overview of everything a practising IT lawyer should know.
The aim of the SCL Foundations of IT Law Programme series is to provide a foundation for lawyers who are qualified practitioners (2- 5 years PQE) who have decided that they want to specialise as IT lawyers.
The cost of attending each module is £90 + VAT (£108) for SCL members, £160 + VAT (£192) for non-members and £15 + VAT (£18) for students and academics in full-time education, unemployed members or those experiencing financial hardship.
