The Digital Economy Act 2017 received Royal Assent on 27 April 2017. It is an interesting piece of legislation, dealing with a bizarre combination of legal topics, including online age restrictions and pornography, automatic compensation, high custodial sentences for copyright infringement and effective exceptions to data protection legislation for public authorities and their suppliers.
