Richard Susskind, SCL’s longest-standing President, has given the SCL annual lecture three times – in 1996, 2006, and 2016. He returns this year to give the first public lecture on his forthcoming book, the 30th anniversary edition of the award-winning, “The Future of Law”.

About Professor Richard Susskind CBE KC (Hon)
Richard is the world’s most cited author on the future of legal services, a globally recognised independent expert on the impact of technology and artificial intelligence on the legal profession. He advises international law firms, in-house corporate counsel, governments, and judiciaries on technology strategy and transformation. He is a past Special Envoy for Justice and AI to the Secretary-General of the Commonwealth and for 25 years, from 1998 to 2023, was Technology Adviser to the Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales.

The author of 11 books, his work has been translated into 25 languages, and he has been invited to speak in over 50 countries. He wrote his doctorate on AI and law at Balliol College Oxford in the mid-1980s. He is a Fellow of the British Computer Society and of the Royal Society of Edinburgh.

His new book “The Future of Law: Reflections and Predictions” will be published on the same day as this Lecture.
