First International Forum on Online Courts

July 18, 2018

SCL has announced that the first international forum on online courts will take place in London on 3rd and 4th December 2018. The forum is a joint initiative from SCL and HMCTS.

The forum on online courts aims to facilitate exchanges of best practice and some of the lessons learned and act as a foundation for the building of a community for those involved in major digital court reform. It is being co-Chaired by SCL President Professor Richard Susskind OBE FRSE and Susan Acland-Hood, Chief Executive, HM Courts & Tribunals Service with a welcome speech from The Right Honourable the Lord Burnett of Maldon, Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales.

This Forum will give participants the opportunity to:

• showcase their work in digital court services reform;

• learn from the experience of other jurisdictions in this area;

• debate the shared policy, social, and technical challenges we face;

• discuss new technological developments and opportunities;

• network with like-minded leaders in digital court reform, and discuss potential collaborations; and

• help create an active, ongoing international digital court services reform community.

SCL and HMCTS invite the digital court reform world to London for this unique event.

“I have no doubt that the work of courts around the world will increasingly be conducted online. Here indeed will lie the key to providing greater access to justice. I am therefore hugely excited that the Society for Computers and Law is co-hosting this pioneering international gathering devoted to online courts.”  Professor Richard Susskind OBE FRSE, President of the Society for Computers and Law, Forum Co-Chair.

“In designing and delivering a programme to transform the justice system in England and Wales, HMCTS have looked closely at the experience of other jurisdictions and we’re looking forward to the Forum bringing together key leaders across the world to share experiences, debate ideas and create new collaborations and partnerships.” Susan Acland-Hood, Chief Executive of HM Courts & Tribunals Service, Forum Co-Chair.
