Social media prosecutions are constantly making the headlines. The DPP has now published his interim guidelines on social media prosecutions and consultation on those guidelines is underway. These guidelines may lead to be better and more consistent decision making by prosecutors, but many problems remain in applying the relevant law to social media networks, a phenomenon unheard of when many of the relevant laws were enacted.

After successfully championing the cause of Twitter defendant Paul Chambers, and continuing to be involved with the debate, nobody could be better placed than David Allen Green to review this important topic and offer challenging views. He is especially well qualified too as one of the leading users of social media among lawyers.

David was the successful defence solicitor for Paul Chambers in the Twitter Joke Trial. He is a lawyer specialising in social media issues and was listed as one of The Lawyer’s Hot 100 in 2011. He is also a well-known legal journalist and is legal correspondent of the New Statesman.

The meeting is Chaired by Michael Taylor of 4 Pump Court (recently Set of the Year at the Chambers Bar Awards).   Michael has a broadly based civil and commercial law practice with an emphasis on Information Technology, in which he is ranked as a leading junior in the legal directories.  He is Chair of the SCL London Group.
