About the Conference
- The Online Safety Summit brings together leading lawyers, in-house counsel, academics, policymakers, regulators and practitioners to explore the rapidly evolving landscape of online safety law, policy and regulation. This summit offers an essential forum for those working at the cutting edge of online safety, whether from a regulatory, privacy, cyber security or commercial perspective.
- This half-day conference will deliver expert-led sessions and dynamic discussion across the spectrum of online safety issues, providing delegates with practical insight, legal analysis and strategic perspectives on the challenges and obligations shaping the digital world today.
Topics we will cover:
- Online Safety Law & Regulation: we will provide an up-to-date overview of the state of law and regulation governing online safety around the world
- Social Media & the Kids: we will consider new rules governing the use of digital platforms by children in the UK and around world, together with discussion of best practices, challenges and insights from both a platform and policy perspective.
- OSA/DSA in Practice: we will provide practical insights on how companies are implementing compliance with OSA and DSA.
- AI & Online Safety: we will discuss AI related online harm types including nudification apps, deep fakes, disinformation, AI chatbots & mental health and AI scams. Plus consider how AI could help with online safety.
- Age Assurance: we will provide practical insights on how AA is currently working and how AA is developing for its expanded role in keeping children out of more online spaces.
- Consumer Protection: the CMA will provide its perspective on the latest developments in consumer protection law, regulation and enforcement
Keynote speakers:
Opening Keynote: Owen Bennett, Owen is an independent expert in international online safety regulation and a Fellow at the Hertie School Centre for Digital Governance in Berlin. His most recent in-house role was at Ofcom, where he led the regulator’s international online safety team. Immediately prior to that, he worked as a senior EU policy manager at Mozilla during the negotiation of the EU Digital Services Act, Digital Markets Act, and the AI Act.
Closing Keynote: James Muldoon, reader at the University of Essex and research associate at the Oxford Internet Institute and author of “Love Machines – How Artificial Intelligence is Transforming Our Relationships”, as featured in the New Statesman’s Best Non-Fiction Books to read in 2026.

Free membership for trainee lawyers and UK students: SCL provides free membership for trainee lawyers until qualification and for UK students in full-time education with a valid ac.uk email address. Student members are eligible to attend SCL events at concessionary rates where a fee is applicable. Trainee members are entitled to attend SCL events at the standard members’ rate (the concessionary rate for UK students in full-time education does not apply).
