The Society of Computers & Law (SCL) and the Online Safety Lawyers’ Network (OSLN) are pleased to invite you to join this 1hr digital session with Rachael Bishop of DSIT. DSIT are leading the UK’s Consultation “Growing up in an Online World” which is due to close on 26 May 2026.

Whether you are an in-house lawyer responding to the consultation, a private practice lawyer advising clients on their consultation response or simply interested in this topic, this is your chance to raise questions with DSIT in advance of the Consultation’s closing date.

Please submit your proposed questions for Rachael by emailing hello@scl.org with the title – “Online Safety Consultation”. Our session hosts will review all questions received and aim to cover as many as possible in their discussion with Rachael.

SCL has further events planned for 2026 relating to online safety including an Online Safety Summit scheduled to take place in autumn 2026. About OSLN:

The Online Safety Lawyers’ Network (OSLN) is a cross-industry network established in 2025. The network provides a global forum for practitioners across the legal ecosystem, to discuss the latest developments in online safety laws and regulations. The network’s aim is to help participants network and support our mutual professional development and practical knowledge in this emerging area of law.


Additional speakers:

  • Sue McLean is a Partner at Bird & Bird specialising in Technology and AI. She is Chair of the Society for Computers & Law. Sue works closely with colleagues in Bird & Bird’s online safety team and is keenly interested in this topic, particularly as a mum of 3 kids growing up in an online world.
  • Rachael Annear is a Partner at Freshfields specialising in Data and Tech Regulation with a particular interest in the financial services, retail and technology sectors, and the growing impact of AI on the fields of data protection and online safety. Rachael is the founder and chair of the Online Safety Lawyers’ Network.
  • Lorna Cropper is a Director in Fieldfisher’s Tech & Data team.  Specialising in data with particular expertise in children’s data protection, Lorna also focuses on Online Safety and AI governance.  She works with a variety of clients across social media, gaming, cloud computing, transport, sports regulation and eCommerce. Lorna is a member of the NSPCC’s Children’s Online Safety Taskforce.

Free membership for trainee lawyers and UK students:
SCL provides free membership for trainee lawyers until qualification and for UK students in full-time education with a valid ac.uk email address. Student members are eligible to attend SCL events at concessionary rates where a fee is applicable. Trainee members are entitled to attend SCL events at the standard members’ rate (the concessionary rate for UK students in full-time education does not apply). Trainees and UK students in full-time education can apply to join SCL for free by emailing hello@scl.org
