Sue is Technology and Fintech partner at Bird & Bird in London.

Sue specialises in major technology deals including cloud, outsourcing, digital transformation and development and licensing. She also advises on a range of legal and regulatory issues relating to the development and roll-out of new technologies including AI, blockchain/DLT, metaverse and crypto-assets.

Her IP and commercial experience includes drafting, advising on and negotiating a wide range of intellectual property and commercial agreements including IP licences and assignment agreements, long-term supply and distribution agreements. She also assists clients in preparing terms of business and related documentation for new business processes and offerings and coordinating global roll-outs.

Shelley is Associate General Counsel and Senior Vice President at Bank of America, supporting the bank’s Global technology, information security and records management functions. Before joining the bank, she was a partner at Hill Dickinson LLP and then Principal In House Counsel and Head of Risk for Eversheds (now Eversheds Sutherland). During a career spanning 26 years, she has always specialised in technology law in its many guises, having studied for a Masters in IT Law during her training contract and quickly established it was the area she wanted to qualify into. Consequently, she has specialised in outsourcing and technology contracts, privacy and data protection law, cyber and information security and emerging technologies.

Shelley joined the Society when she qualified, having been on the committee of and Chair of the Northern Group before joining the Board. She has lectured extensively on commercial and IT law issues at a number of universities, written for a number of publications (including SCL magazine!) and appeared on Radio 4.

Tom is Associate General Counsel at Temenos, a global leader in banking technology, leading the legal function for the company’s SaaS business. He is a technology and outsourcing lawyer with over a decade of in‑house experience across consulting, technology and financial services.

Based in Amsterdam, Ray is an English law solicitor and in-house counsel at ING.

He has expertise on technology, resilience and cybersecurity related regulatory requirements, helping ING shape legislation in its development phases through to providing strategic counsel on implementation.

Previously located in London, working at the London Branch of ING and, prior to that, at a number of London based international law firms.

Yvonne is a Partner in the Pinsent Masons Technology, Media and Telecoms team who provides outsourcing, IT and commercial contracts advice to the financial services sector.  Yvonne also leads the Pinsent Masons FinTech practice and advises both established financial services businesses and fintechs, as well as on collaboration activity between the two. She is responsible for managing several of our key financial services client relationships. Yvonne is a member of the Fintech Scotland Cluster Board and the FRIL Industry Steering Group.

Jonathan is the co-head of Bird & Bird’s international Financial Services Sector Group and co-head of the firm’s UK FinTech team.

He is a leading practitioner in the FinTech space, with deep expertise in payments, Open Banking, crypto, AI, stablecoins, tech sourcing and outsourcing. Jonny advises a broad range of high-profile FinTechs and financial institutions on matters including product counselling, international expansion, disruptive digital technology adoption, and complex tech transactions.

He is recognised in the legal directories for his FinTech work (Legal 500 and Chambers) and is listed in Who’s Who Legal: FinTech.

After qualifying at a Scottish law firm, I have been a Legal Counsel in the Outsourcing, Technology and IP team at NatWest Bank for the last 6 years. My role includes supporting the bank’s stakeholders on big ticket technology and innovation projects, particularly advising on emerging technology such as AI, and associated regulatory, legal and ethical considerations and requirements. The job is fast paced and varied and full of opportunities to work at the cutting edge of new technology developments. I am also a member of the Law Society of Scotland’s Sustainability Committee. In my free time I enjoy trying out the foodie scene in Edinburgh, going for long walks (or short runs) along the beautiful Scottish coast, playing piano & video games, and travelling to new places.

Daisy is Head of Legal, Group, Digital and Data Protection at Aviva, an international savings, retirement and insurance business headquartered in the UK. Daisy leads a team of lawyers supporting the Aviva businesses on a broad range of matters relating to privacy, the digital strategy and artificial intelligence. This includes advising on data protection impact assessments, fair processing notices and consent wordings, marketing communications and GenAI initiatives.

Prior to joining Aviva in 2020, Daisy held regional and global in-house privacy roles at several large, multinational financial services companies.

Mark is a Managing Director at Standard Chartered Bank and the Head of Group Commercial Legal. He leads a global team of other leaders and lawyers providing legal support across the Standard Chartered Bank group. Mark has over 20 years of experience, with prior roles in Corporate and M&A and Government Investigations at Standard Chartered Bank and as a Corporate lawyer at Addleshaw Goddard.

Mark has changed the way legal services are delivered at Standard Chartered Bank, with the creation of Legal Centres of Excellence and the adoption of legal technology and AI. Mark has a keen interest in new ways of working and the skills and experience needed for lawyers and leaders of the future.

Kate Newbound is Managing Associate General Counsel at HSBC, specialising in technology and commercial matters. As legal business partner to Procurement, she works closely with senior technology and sourcing leaders to enable complex deals and manages the tech/commercial deal team. Kate is known for her pragmatic, solutions-led approach — focusing on how legal can help teams move forward safely rather than slow things down. She is an active contributor to industry discussions on legal innovation in financial services. Kate joined HSBC in 2014 from global law firm DLA Piper where she specialised in large procurement projects.

John is the Head of Legal for Data Protection and Artificial Intelligence at Revolut, where he oversees the privacy-by-design and artificial intelligence legal programmes for a global financial super-app serving over 70 million customers. John is experienced at navigating the intersection of emerging technology, international regulation and the future of digital banking. As Revolut scales toward becoming the world’s first truly global bank, he regularly engages with global regulators and senior stakeholders to ensure the secure and ethical implementation of data protection and AI.

Reena Patel is Head of Data Legal EMEA at UBS, leading advice on complex data, cyber, and regulatory issues across jurisdictions. Her expertise spans data protection, operational resilience, and emerging technologies, including AI and data ethics. She has significant experience supporting financial institutions on cyber incidents, data breaches, and cross-border data issues, and works closely with senior stakeholders on governance and risk management. Prior to her role at UBS, Reena was a part of the legal teams at Barclays and Pinsent Masons

Hafiz Wong leads the international legal function at Broadridge and a high-performing team of lawyers supporting its global fintech business across Europe, Asia-Pacific and South America. A technology, data and telecommunications lawyer by background, he leads on complex cross-border regulatory and commercial matters – helping the business move fast, with confidence.  He champions legal as part of the business, focusing on outcomes, and is particularly interested in how legal frameworks can keep pace with rapid technological change.
